Boston 2012 [no label, 2CD]

The Ruth and Carl J Shapiro Celebrity Lectures, Remis Auditorium, Museum Of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; November 14, 2012 (first of two nights). Very good to excellent audience recording.

While Up Up And Away might prove more than a strain for the 66-year-old Webb, he was in fine form talking about his early days (amusing anecdote about playing Amazing Grace in church), his hit songs and fielding questions from the floor, about how MacArthur Park did not “cut” it with The Association; expressing admiration for  composers such as Bacharach-David and Lennon-McCartney; taking “originality as a challenge… I don’t like repetition”, songwriting as an American art; and rightful compensation for songwriters.

Thanks to Steve Hopkins (shopkin527) for recording and sharing the show at planetrocklosslessbootlegs.

A fun and entertaining set and a must for anyone who has spot for any of Jimmy Webb’s songs.
