THE LEGENDARY WALL
The Wall. An album. An event. A movie. We present the first of several live performances of The Wall by Pink Floyd from 1980 to 1981.

PINK FLOYD
Bars In The Window [FA005, 2CD]
Live at Earl’s Court, London, England, August 6, 1980. Excellent audience.
Since the release of Pink Floyd’s The Wall late 1979, the album has been both critically acclaimed and a commercial hit. With its themes of alienation, loss and conformity, the album presented a very broad canvas which the group turned into a spectacular live performance.
Yet Pink Floyd only played four cities to promote the album:
- Los Angeles (February 7-13, 1980)
- New York (February 24-28, 1980)
- London (August 4-9, 1980; June 13-17, 1981)
- Dortmund (February 13-20, 1981)
Even before the start of the tour, keyboardist Richard Wright was already sacked from the band but went on tour as a paid musician. According to the wikipedia, Wright’s influence was minimised, and he was fired from the band during recording, only returning on a fixed wage for the live shows in support of the album. Ironically, this fixed salary made Wright the only “member” of Pink Floyd to make any money from the Wall concerts, with the three remaining members stuck covering the extensive cost overruns of their most spectacular concerts yet.
This excellent audience recording was originally shared by Furry_Animal & The Greedy who noted: “This beauty comes directly from the master tapes, while the Man Of Leisure Music release is an FM broadcast of a first gen. This was obtained directly from the taper, and it’s a remaster of his master tapes (made by himself), but whatever he did, it sounds wonderful. Amazing show, you are not to miss this one.”
