DR JOHN AND THE LOWER 911
31st Annual Telluride Jazz Celebration [no label, 1CD]

Live at the McCoy Tyner Town Park Stage, Telluride, Colo., June 8, 2008.

When New Orleans 60s R&B legend, Dr John, sings: “The road to the White House is paved with lies,” on his new song, Promises, Promises, you know that the good doctor is pissed. The track is from his latest album, The City That Care Forgot, a lament for the people of New Orleans whose city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, whose flood control funds were diverted by the Bush administration in 2001 for the War on Terror.

Released on June 3, several tracks from the new album were featured at this concert including the heartbreakingly soulful My People Need A Second Line as well as the title track, The City That Care Forgot. Oh by the way, Dr John gets to tell the White House to “kiss my ass.”

Thanks to nolataper for sharing this very good FM broadcast on the Dime site.
