The Gilad Atzmon with Strings project makes a brief stop at the BBC.

GILAD ATZMON
with the Orient House Ensemble and the Sigamos String Quartet
BBC Radio 3 “In Tune” 2011 [no label, 1CD]

Live in London, July 11, 2011. From BBC Radio 3 HD stream at 320kbps. Ex stereo.

When Charlie Parker first released Charlie Parker With Strings, there was disquiet that the great saxman was pushing for greater sales. The With Strings album was all covers of popular standards. Over the years, Charlie Parker With Strings has been seen as a satisfying combination of cool jazz with strings that worked for many fans.

Gilad Atzmon has not been blind to its power. He is currently touring as Gilad Atzmon With Strings and bringing along the Sigamos String Quartet. Together they cover much of the songs Parker did. Atzmon has said of Charlie Parker With Strings that he “loved the way the music is both beautiful and subversive – the way (Parker) basks in the strings but also fights against them.”

A great big thanks to UncleBoko who shared this show at Dime.
